NIFT Patna is a government-run institute founded in 2008. NIFT Patna was originally housed in Udyog Bhavan, Gandhi Maidan, until moving to its own permanent campus in Mithapur Farms in 2014. India Today 2021 placed the institute 5th for Fashion Design, 4th for Fashion Design in 2020, and 6th for Fashion Design by The Week 2020.

NIFT currently has 18 campuses around India, including NIFT Delhi, NIFT Bengaluru, NIFT Chennai, NIFT Gandhinagar, NIFT Hyderabad, and NIFT Kolkata. The NIFT entrance exam, a national-level entrance examination, is used to determine admission. NIFT is well-known for its infrastructure, which includes accommodations, well-equipped labs, an indoor sports facility, medical facilities, and a resource center for students.

NIFT Patna is a public university that offers courses in Fashion Design, Management, and Technology. NIFT Patna currently provides B.Des and Bachelor of Fashion Technology degrees at the undergraduate level, as well as Master of Fashion Management at the graduate level. A one-year Certificate program in Fashion & Clothing Technology is also available at the institute.

The institute's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance plan allows students from low-income families to receive reduced tuition at all NIFT campuses in order to maximize their potential. NIFT Patna admission includes GDPI (Group Discussion and Personal Interview) for admission to master's degree programs. The final result will be weighted at 20% for the Situation Test, 50% for the CAT, and 30% for the GAT for admission to B.Des. Candidates will be shortlisted for NIFT counselling and seat allocation using the final merit list.

Candidates for undergraduate and certificate programs must have completed 10+2.

A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is the minimum qualification for a postgraduate course.

Candidates for the B.Des. program must be at least 23 years old. The PG course has no age restrictions.

For the B.Des. program, candidates from SC/ST/PWD are offered a 5% age relaxation.

The NIFT Patna entrance exam is used to determine admission to all courses.

Candidates must pass a written test that includes the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).

The application fee for NIFT is INR 2,000 (General category) and INR 1,000 (Professional category) for UG and PG programs (reserved category). Students can pay this fee online via net banking, credit/debit card, UPI, etc. 

Candidates can apply for NIFT Patna's undergraduate and graduate programs over the internet. Candidates can apply for the Continuing Education (CE) program in both online and offline formats. The following is a step-by-step application procedure:

Design for Fashion

The curriculum cultivates a design sensibility that strikes a balance between global fashion aesthetics and an Indian soul. It caters to the needs of the Indian export market as well as couture and prêt-à-porter. 

Design in Leather

The integration of design concepts with material understanding is emphasized. Students explore and develop materials, techniques, forms, and components through a multidisciplinary approach and exposure to the industry through field visits, tannery training, Craft Cluster programs, industrial internships, and graduation projects.

Accessory Design 

Accessories are personal items that function, conceptualize, and aesthetically relate to people and their surroundings. Exploration, digesting, and playing with concepts, ideas, and materials are all part of the NIFT Patna course in order to provide a platform for new ideas and powerful personal expression. 

Lectures, Projects (studio, live, and collaborative), Group work, Field visits (traditional and modern), Self-study, Presentations, and reflections are among the approaches used in the programs. Traditional artisan processes are taught alongside the use of modern technology tools to students. 

Design of Textiles

The program is based on the integration of design creative energies with textile technology, while also taking into account the designers' current historical, social, and cultural settings. A focus on learning specialist software is also placed on exploring digital and non-traditional approaches to design, fabric structures, and surfaces. Students are also exposed to a craft atmosphere through this program.

Knitting Patterns

The curriculum is meant to produce well-rounded professionals capable of dealing with the issues of circular and flat-bed knitting in both domestic and international markets. Designers, Creative Managers, Merchandisers, Production Managers, and Entrepreneurs are all options. Knitwear design students are exposed to a diverse range of environments.

Communication in Fashion
